Many people, who provide behavioral supports, only offer applied behavioral analysis. This approach, by the way, is extremely effective and the literature and the research bear this out. We, on the other hand, provide behavioral consultations and also therapy. Our office is trained in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and informed in Solution-Focused Therapy, DBT and Mindfulness. These two types of service are distinct: behavioral support consults focus on a person and coach the staff/parent on what to “positively reinforce” and so on; therapy is often targeting an individual to take a more active role toward change, and the ability to introspect is typically needed. As therapists, we can diagnose and provide a mental health perspective. Our philosophy is to always provide dignity, positivity, and empathy to the people we interact with and to encourage an authentic self by encouraging independence, exercising self-determination, gaining insight, and applying new knowledge for change and greater self-awareness.
